Toastmasters speech #2 – “Did you see what I said?”

For this Toastmasters speech, I discussed 5 key nonverbal communication cues and how they can be useful for becoming a more competent communicator

To delineate between verbal communication, and nonverbal communication, I wanted to try a different approach to an opener.

My emphasis was on my voice. If I was on a stage, I would have opened up with it completely black. However, I did not have that luxury. Thus I needed to have a creative way to highlight the two forms of communication.

Build your mindfulness without meditating

A quick google search of the word “mindfulness” produces results around meditation. There’s apps to follow, there’s online articles on best practices, there’s meditation retreats you can sign up for, and there are the psychological, mood-boosting benefits of mindfulness.

Let’s define mindfulness:



noun: mindfulness 

  1. the quality or state of being conscious or aware of something.
    “their mindfulness of the wider cinematic tradition
  2. a mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, used as a therapeutic technique.

TL;DR – Mindfulness is all about focusing on the moment.
